Pat Buchanan's singing her tune

He doesn't seem to like McCain, but he sure loves McCain's pick.

I love Pat Buchanan. He reminds me of my dad. During my teenage years most weekday nights you could catch me staying up late doing homework in the family room, mostly because I wanted to be near my dad, but also because I knew I could learn a lot by listening to whoever my dad was listening to. I remember having a conversation about Buchanan one time, and asking my dad if he thought Buchanan would ever win the presidency. "No, because he actually believes what he tells you he believes."

I simply adore Buchanan. Not only is he a fellow Catholic Traditionalist in the public square, and a combatter of evils ranging from abortion to the North American Union, but he's one of the few political philosophers for whose points of reference reach beyond Hobbes, Locke, and Jefferson. His rejection of the idea that America is an ideological nation, a universal nation, or anything but a nation held together, however tenuously, by the people's familial affections for each other, and their attachment to the land itself (exposited in State of Emergency), is a particularly striking example of his ability to think independenly.
